Hopes are high at Richard this season as the team has quite a few talented and experienced players back on the court.

Overall, Pioneers Coach Kristy Cameron has nine returners from a team that finished runner up at the CHSL Meet in 2015.

All four singles players will step back into their spots from last year, with senior Will Gajda at No. 1 senior Jacob Hanoian at No. 2, senior Yuri Alante at No. 3 and sophomore Chance DeSana at No. 4.

Last season, Gajda was runner up at the CHSL Meet and runner up at Division 2 Regionals, which qualified him for the state meet.

Hanoian, who earned All-Catholic honors in 2015, won titles at both the CHSL Meet and at Regionals and was runner at the News-Hearld “A” Invitational. Alonte was also a CHSL Meet champion and DeSana was a runner up.

Back at No. 1 doubles is senior Jon Donahey and this year he’ll be joined by fellow returning senior Shawn Szpaichler. Last season he was a part of a duo that finished runner up at both the CHSL Meet and at D2 Regionals.

Other doubles players this year for Richard will be seniors Brenden Wlodkowski, Trevor Rank and Dylan Reynolds and juniors Andy Koziol and Michael Moceri.

The Pioneers were scheduled for a trip to Dearborn High on Aug. 18 to open season at the Muldowney Snell Tournament.
