Gabriel Richard split its two games last week with a victory over Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes and a loss to Detroit Cristo Rey.
On Jan. 24, the Pioneers overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Our Lady of the Lakes 63-49.
“In the first half, we were standing there watching them run,” Gabriel Richard Coach Kris Daiek said. “In the second half, we challenged the kids to step up and they did. It shows you some of the character we have in that locker room right now.”
Jacob Camilleri led the Pioneers with 19 points while Anthony Lemieux added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
“Our first half defense was very good, but in the second half, they pressed a bit, we had some turnovers and they hit some threes,” Daiek said. “You could definitely feel the momentum shifting and we could never get that back.”
Noah Smykowski paced the Pioneers with 11 points. Danny Baum scored nine and Braden Walter had six points and 11 rebounds.
Richard traveled to Everest Academy last night and will host Jewish Academy this Friday.
