The Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwestsoftball team finished its season at 16-12 after a 5-2 loss in the Division 3 regional semifinals on Saturday against Riverview Gabriel Richardat Manchester High School.
Gabriel Richard scored a run in each of the first three innings and then two in the top of the fifth before Lutheran Northwest drove in its two in the bottom of the sixth.
“Their pitcher mixed things up and kept us off balance,” Lutheran Northwest coach Jeff Ludwig said. “With the change of speeds, it took us a while to figure her out. We had to earn everything, and we’ll tip our caps to her.”
Ludwig admitted that his team faced an uphill battle this season, schedule-wise, but will have all-but-one starter back on next year’s squad.
“We are looking forward to getting ourselves back here next year.”
Lutheran Northwest won its last three district titles. Gabriel Richard defeated Grosse Pointe University Woods Liggett, 17-5, to advance to the state quarterfinals.
