Riverview Gabriel Richard scored the first and last goals of the night in its first-ever game as a varsity program against Madison Heights Bishop Foley Tuesday night.
It’s what happened in between the Pioneers’ bookend goals that made all the difference.
The Ventures scored 14 unanswered goals in a 14-2 victory— Bishop Foley’s first of the season.
Jacob Doxen scored six goals in the victory for the Ventures (1-1); Matt Wilcox chipped in with four goals and Joe Schmidt finished with two goals. Andrew Baranski and Andrew Richards also found the back of the net for the Ventures.
Chance DeSana scored Gabriel Richard’s first-ever goal, with 6:52 remaining in the opening quarter, briefly giving the Pioneers (0-1) a 1-0 lead. Nikolas Nelson scored the final game of the evening with 2:03 remaining in the game to provide the final margin of victory.
“The kids played hard and stayed positive.” First Year Head Coach, Louis Morin said. “This wasn’t just the first game of the season for us, it was the first game ever for these guys.” Coach Morin continued. “Our kids played hard for the entire game and that’s what we are going to build on.”
Next for Gabriel Richard is its home opener on April 12 against Divine Child; Bishop Foley will host Royal Oak Shrine on April 8.
