This year, a total of six Richard athletes have earned their way onto the All-News-Herald Team for a strong Pioneers squad that was runner up at the CHSL Meet.
Junior Nick Hammond won his third consecutive Regional championship this spring in the 800m and picked up his second N-H Meet gold medal in as many seasons in the same event.
At the N-H Meet, he was three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in the 800m (2:00.56). In the same event at Regionals, Hammond (2:02.73) finished 1-2 with senior teammate Luke Geierman (2:05.38) and they both qualified for the state finals.
The pair joined sophomore Andrew Holten and senior Donovan Wheeler for a Regional championship in the 4×800 relay (8:32.51). It also marked the second consecutive season Hammond and Geierman qualified for states with the 4×800 relay.
Wheeler earned a Regional championship on his own in the 300m hurdles (43.21) and junior Tim Augustyniak was runner up in the high jump (5-11.00).
In the 800m at the D4 state meet, Hammond (1:59.66) was third and earned All-State honors, while Geierman (2:03.53) just missed All-State with a ninth-place finish.
Hammond, Geierman, Holten and Wheeler finished ninth, as well, in the 4×800 relay (8:31.39).
Augustyniak was 17th in the high jump (5-08.00) and Wheeler was 21st in the 300m hurdles (44.98).
Earlier in the season, Augustyniak had picked up a bronze in the discus (120-01) at the N-H Meet.
In her senior season, Kelly Gilson shined as a thrower for the Richard track and field team.
She was a D3 Regional champion in the shot put (28-07.00) in 2016 and along the way had several strong finishes in both throwing events.
At the D3 state meet, Gilson placed 26th in the shot put (28-7.00).
