Several Pioneers where named to the All News Herald Team, this week.
Nolan Kopytko, Riverview Gabriel Richard: Kopytko was strong between the pipes in his junior year with the Pioneers. He finished with a 3.25 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage. He shined against some of the state’s better teams, as he shut out Alpena, stopped 31 of 33 shots against Country Day and stopped 33 of 37 shots against Allen Park.
Drew Adams, Riverview Gabriel Richard: One of several young players on the Pioneers’ roster, Adams saw quite a bit of time in goal in his freshman season and made the most of it. The freshman netminder finished with a goals-against average of 3.57 and a save percentage of .877. He stopped 22 of 23 shots in Richard’s playoff win over Southgate Anderson and earlier in the season turned away 29 of 30 in a victory against Roosevelt. Adams also had 32 or more saves four different times this winter.
Nathan Vasquez, Riverview Gabriel Richard: Vasquez gave the Pioneers a lot to look forward to in what was his first season of high school hockey. The freshmen forward tied for the team lead in goals (6) and had five assists, which left him tied for second in points (11). Also, he was only called for one penalty all year.
Chance DeSana, Gabriel Richard: DeSana is yet another talented young player who the Pioneers will look to in the near future. The sophomore forward netted four goals and tied for second on the squad in both assists (7) and points (11). He had a goal and an assist in Richard’s playoff win over Anderson and also netted a goal a few days earlier in a victory over Woodhaven.
Josh Wiseman, Austin Harrison, Cam Ramirez, James Balina and Dillon Reynolds where named honorable mention.
