The Gabriel Richard Pioneers would sweep the Cabrini Monarchs for both the Softball and Baseball District Championships. With the softball team winning by the final score of 8-7 and the baseball team winning 2-0.
The morning game would see the softball team win in dramatic fashion. Richard scored three times in the opening inning, only to have Cabrini take the lead with five runs in the second inning.
GR answered with three more runs in the second inning to regain the lead. Cabrini scored twice in the fourth and the Pioneers tied the game at seven with one run in the bottom of the same inning. That sent the game into the dramatic seventh inning. Second baseman Sandy Cislo legged out a bases loaded infield single to seal the win 8-7 with two outs.
In the afternoon baseball game, it was the spectacular pitching of Brennan Cox. The senior, would throw a no hitter against the Monarchs. Allowing only two base runners the entire game and striking out 5.
The Pioneers would get there only two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning when Sophomore, Hayden Burke would drive in Sophomore, Kevin Tuttle. With a 1-0 lead, Senior Jac Lemieux would add an RBI to make the game 2-0. That would be all Richard would need as they closed out Cabrini and captured their second consecutive title.
Both teams will face the Madison District winner, St. Mary’s Catholic Central. The softball team will play at 9am and the baseball team will play at 11am. Games will be played on Saturday at Manchester High School
