Saturday October 14th marked the running of the first annual Gabriel Richard Downriver Invitational Cross Country meet at Young Patriots Park in Riverview. The meet, which was formerly known as the News-Herald Invitational, featured 16 boys teams and 13 girls teams, including the addition of Dearborn Divine Child and Dearborn Heights Crestwood.
For the boys, Woodhaven finished first with 90 points. Lincoln Park (102) took second and Dearborn Divine Child (109) placed third. Grosse Ile (131) was fourth, followed by Crestwood (136), Gibraltar Carlson (158), Allen Park (180), Riverview (189), Southgate Anderson (218), Wyandotte Roosevelt (224), New Boston Huron (270), Trenton (312), Allen Park Cabrini (312). Riverview Gabriel Richard (318) came in 14th, followed by Romulus Summit Academy (426) and Melvindale (489).
Leading the way again Richard was Andrew Holten (17:30.8, 18th). He was followed by Jacob Gosen (19:08.6, 67th), Sean Clancy (19:28, 75th), Adam Holten (19:32.8, 78th) Weston Pfeiffer (19:37.1, 80th), Jordan Mckinney (19:49.1, 82nd) and Josh Tynan (20:57.8, 90th).
For the girls, Dearborn Divine Child finished first with just 41 total points. Southgate Anderson was the runner up, with 71 points, followed by Grosse Ile (86). In fourth was Trenton (154), followed by Allen Park (158), Woodhaven (165), Crestwood (183), Wyandotte Roosevelt (211), Gibraltar Carlson (242), New Boston Huron (249), Allen Park Cabrini (254), Lincoln Park (287) and Riverview Gabriel Richard (309).
Elizabeth Hanoian (22:44.6, 43rd) has been a standout on the Richard team and once again led the way for the Richard girls. Elizabeth was followed by Emily deHaan (23:46, 62nd), Destiny Jones (24:08.7, 70th), Olivia Magiera (24:31.2, 73rd), Gillian Draft (26:33.4, 87th) and Sydney Balan (26:35.0, 88th). Additionally, three of the 6 Richard girls achieved their Personal Best times.
