The nightcap saw the regional host Pioneers from Gabriel Richard flexing their muscles for a third consecutive win over Carlson this season, including back-to-back shutouts.
After tallying one goal in the first, Richard (18-8) really opened things up in the second period with a four-spot, including two goals in the span of a minute midway through the frame and another coming with under a minute to go. In total, the Pioneers poured in 38 shots on goal against Carlson goalie Isaac Kolasa.
Five different skaters scored for Richard. Gavin Fink, Nathan Vazquez, Jake Emery and Austin Harrison each scored once while Sebastian Potter scored twice. Vazquez also recorded four assists to make it a five-point night. Emery had a pair of assists, as well while Aidan Wishart also helped out on a Pioneer goal.
Carlson (9-18) was only able to muster 11 shots on goal against Richard netminder Drew Adams, six of which came in the second period. Each team committed four infractions though all of the goals scored came at even strength.
