The Gabriel Richard Freshman Boys earn a wire to wire victory over Cardinal Mooney 32 – 42.
Richard’s defense was key in the win, only allowing 10pts in the first quarter and no more than 9 points in any of the final 3. Leading by 5 at the half, the Pioneers struggled to score a bit in the 3rd quarter, but outscored Mooney again in the 3rd after a clutch 3 at the end of the quarter by Pat Guentner to push the lead to 6.
The Pioneers controlled the 4th quarter by forcing turnovers and scoring in transition. Alex Meszaros scored 6 of his 10 points in the 4th, and Matt Mann capped off the game scoring all 3 of his points on 3 of 4 from the line and also had a monster block.
Stephen Maki led the way scoring 12 of his game high 15pts in the first half. Pat Guentner finished with 6pts on 2 three point bombs. Nick Stokes scored 4pts and played solid defense. Andrew Cabalang rounded out the scoring with 4pts while playing tremendous defense and a great floor game with 6 assists.
