The Pioneers Freshman Basketball got off to a rough defensive start to their 58 – 50 loss to Cranbrook. They gave up 21pts in the quarter, including 4 three pointers and trailed 21-11 after one. The 2nd quarter was better defensively, but GR still trailed by 12 going into halftime.
After another evenly played 3rd quarter, GR started the 4th down by 14 points 49 – 35. The Pioneers turned up the pressure in the fourth and forced Cranbrook into turnovers. The pressure opened up transition opportunities and GR cut the lead to 4 late in the quarter. A couple of costly turnovers late forced GR to have to foul and Cranbrook converted on free throws to close the game out with an 8 point victory.
Leading the way for Richard was Alex Meszaros with 13pts making 7 out of his 8 free throw attempts. Andrew Cabalang followed with 12pts including 2 the pointers. Stephen Maki scored 8pts while Pat Guentner and Jordan Luong both finished with 6pts. Nick Stokes rounded out the scoring with 5.
